The Story behind Avi Dermatology
Avi Dermatology is founded on a legacy of service, education, and dedication to patient care that spans generations.
Dr. Marla Rodríguez Vázquez's grandparents were part of the fourth graduating class of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 1958—her grandmother being one of only four women to graduate that year. Together, they practiced medicine in Bayamón for over 50 years, retiring in their 80s. Known not only for their commitment to patients, they also offered their clinic space free of charge to young residency graduates, helping ease their transition into practice.
Both of her parents are also active physicians in Puerto Rico, and have supported and inspired her in every step.
This foundation of excellence, compassion, and community is what inspired Dr. Rodríguez Vázquez to follow in her family’s footsteps.
After growing up in Puerto Rico, she spent more than a decade training across the U.S., including time at Boston College, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, the Cleveland Clinic, and Duke University.
Her residency at Duke provided advanced experience in subspecialty dermatology clinics, as well as mentorship from nationally and internationally recognized leaders in the field. She also holds specialized skills in procedures such as nail surgeries, which require a high level of precision and care.
